Future Projects
Below are listing some of the programs we hope to start as soon as we acquire more funding and support.
Maternity Ward Extension
The maternity ward at the Health Center in Lubumbashi has been such a huge success that new centers our needed around town. As the community witnesses the amazing improvement in the number of infants born happy and healthy, more and more mothers come to the center for healthcare. One center is not enough to provide care and treatment for the whole city. We hope to build two more in two different communities of Lubumbashi to satisfy the growing number of clients. The cost to build one new health centers would be at least $USA 38,000. Doctors Worldwide (UK) is involved in financial ressources mobilization and supporting the building of one new clinic in Lubumbashi. RADEM had received many requests from peoples living in rural areas, and now we are planning to build small maternity at Kamina 700 km from Lubumbashi, at Sandoa in the Lualaba district 1,000 km from Lubumbashi, at Kipushi 30km from Lubumbashi.
Construction of Nursing Schools
The need for nurses grows every day in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Fortunately, they are many candidates to attend nursing school, but not enough Schools. The lack of education deprives the Congolese from so many things, one of them is healthcare. We hope to build a nursing school in the town of Kabondodianda, about 600 kilometers from Lubumbashi. To do this we will need to raise $38,000, this includes the cost of laboratory equipment and materials.
Other Goals
RADEM has other hopes for its community, but supplies and funds are slim, prolonging the execution of these projects. For example, they would like to improve the infrastructure and environment of the region which includes building latrines, roadways, and sewer systems, carpenter workshops. Improvements like these are in dire need, but require major funds and support which RADEM continues to procure.
RADEM also has plans for a woodworking school. Wood is a major resource in the area and a great tool to improve the economy and to create many jobs for youth. RADEM would like to put this resource to good use, but is wary of possible exploitation. RADEM aims to harvest the wood with an environmentally sound system and create a profitable, legal market for furniture production.
Other Needs
For the services provided by centers already in place, RADEM needs medical supplies, laboratory materials, and medication.
For the activities related to the HIV/AIDS awareness programs, RADEM needs educational tools and multimedia equipment to facilitate with lectures and lessons. The local market can't provide multimedia electroprojector.
